How salary converts to hourly
Hourly rate = annual salary ÷ (hours per week × 52). At 40 hours a week that's 2,080 hours a year, so a $60,000 salary is about $28.85 an hour.
If you get paid vacation and holidays, the effective rate for hours actually worked is a little higher. If you regularly work more than 40 hours on a salary, your real hourly rate is lower: $60,000 at 50 hours a week is about $23.08 an hour.
The formula
Hourly rate = yearly salary ÷ (hours a week × paid weeks)
A quick estimate: halve the salary and drop three zeros. $60,000 a year is about $30 an hour (exactly $28.85).
